BRAZIL: Large Scale Cultivation and Family Farmer Support

NATIVE’s ground breaking Agroecology approach that literally holds 23 certifications, including the Regenerative Organic Certification (ROC), produces 1/3 of the world’s organic cane sugar. Native also makes its successful brand available to smallholder family farmers to provide them with better market access.

How Native serves 1/3 of the organic cane sugar market by listening to nature.

As our fundraising increases, GLOBAL ACADEMY will create an extensive overview of NATIVE’s outstanding work such as the ones we created already for APCNF, SEKEM and EoL.

Very briefly: NATIVE’s ground breaking agroecology approach that literally holds 23 certifications, including the Regenerative Organic Certification (ROC). ROC was invented by Leontino Balbo in deep contact with nature and through ongoing experimentation on his family’s 20,000 hectares farm in Sao Paulo state, one of the world’s leading agricultural areas.

Why does this matter for climate change?

Native’s yields outcompete the most sophisticated chemical and GMO approaches. As a result, its neighbors who own another 30,000 hectares asked Native to also cultivate their land. On the combined 50,000 hectares Native produces ⅓ of the world’s organic cane sugar that is used by leading brands like Natura and sold to consumers via its own brand, which it makes available also to small scale producers to increase their income. Leontino also advises owners of even larger farms, demonstrating that this method outperforms also across other key crops.
